Prototype: hand tracked UI interaction

Odyssey 1.0 is a UI prototype I built to explore the thought of a massive open world game in virtual reality and how a user would access game wide information without pausing the game to make amends, check inventory or even find out what to do on a particular quest.

Ideation & implementation

I figured that the user would have a HUD anyhow so an interactive overlay would be the best route to access info. Secondly the user would need to access the HUD overlay in a non intrusive way so I decided to add in a simple hand UI that’s accessed by pressing a button around the lower hand / wrist area. This will allow the user to still interact with items in the world as normal without accidently hitting the UI interaction buttons and also removes the need for a button press on a controller.
